APC chides DSS over arrest of Lai Mohammed

LEADERSHIP of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Thursday, chided the Department of State Services (DSS) and comments of its spokesperson, Ms Marilyn Ogar, over the arrest of the acting national publicity secretary of the party, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, in the course of the recently concluded governorship election in Osun State.

The party, in a statement by Mohammed, described the arrest as showing “crass partisanship and unprofessional conduct.”

In particular, the party rubbished the “loitering” defence for the action of the DSS by spokesperson for the agency, Ms Ogar, noting that the constitution of the Federation Republic of Nigeria guaranteed freedom of movement.

“On what basis is Ms Ogar questioning what the APC’s national publicity secretary was doing in Osun, when the same fellow has not questioned the presence of Musiliu Obanikoro, Chris Uba and the likes in the same state, or are those people from Osun State? Was it not publicly announced that the APC was moving its headquarters to Osun to give support for Governor Rauf Aregbesola?”  the party questioned

It further described as lies, allegation by Ms Ogar that the party tried to bribe the DSS with N14 million before the August 9 election, wondering why the DSS did not arrest the official who offered the alleged bribe.

The party described the allegation as “chief blackmail,” positing that the election in Osun showcased the party’s commitment to upholding democracy in Nigeria
