Omisore’s Bus Gift Tears OAU Students Apart

Osun State PDP Governorship Candidate, Iyiola Omisore
Students of Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, Ile-Ife, Osun State, have described their union leaders as gluttons for receiving the bus gift presented to them by Senator Iyiola Omisore, governorship candidate under the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, platform in the forthcoming election in the state.

The aggrieved students said that their leaders have failed to represent the values that they stood for and do not deserve to be called leaders of the great institution.
The students who spoke with P.M.NEWS Campus Square noted that the gift from Senator Omisore was to seek the support of OAU students in the forthcoming election through its union.

“How can we claim to be future leaders of this country and advocating for change in our society when we still allow ourselves to be influenced by gifts? Our union leaders have proved themselves to be gluttons and I think they are not fit to protect the values that Great Ife students uphold,” one of the students who pleaded anonymity said.

Akande Omotayo, a 400-Level student of Chemical Engineering told our correspondent that he believes the generality of Great Ife students can never be induced by any candidate as they will vote for the candidate of their choice.

“Great Ife students have learnt to be non-partisan or affiliated to any political party, which has always given us a good reputation. We are intellectuals and objective in our judgments, which will make it impossible for us to be induced by any politician,” he said.

Another student who condemned the act was Olubanji Oluwole, a 400-Level student of Philosophy.
He said: “we are not condemning the personality of Senator Omisore or our SUG leaders but what we are saying is that collecting a bus from a politician who represents the bourgeoisie and the union that represents the masses is wrong.

“Moreover, we are in the middle of a struggle which has not yielded any positive result. That is why we are totally condemning the action of our union leaders.”

In his response to the ‘glutton’ tag on the students’ leaders, Bamidele Samuel, Public Relations Officer of the SUG told P.M. NEWS Campus Square that “the OAU students’ union is non-partisan and not affiliated to any political party. We are not in support of either PDP or APC, we are neutral.

“The bus we collected from Senator Iyiola Omisore was a gift which we would have accepted if it had been offered by any other politician.”
