The Federal Government has
instructed the Federal Ministry of Health through the Port Health Services
to extend Ebola virus disease screening to local air passengers.
This screening
was before now carried out on only international passengers.
The move is in the government’s
effort to effectively curb the spread of the highly infectious EVD within the
country.
Under the directive, all passengers
who have obtained boarding passes from their respective airlines are expected
to proceed to the two special desks provided for the health officials, who in
turn use the infrared thermometer to screen the passengers.
While any passenger whose
temperature level was above 38 degrees centigrade was asked to step aside for
further screening.
