Mamador Partners NHF to Celebrate World Heart Day Healthy Heart Bazaar
With the theme “Live-Work-Play-Join”, the aim of the 2014 World Heart Day is to ensure that individuals have the best opportunities to make Heart-Healthy choices where they live work and play. The bazaar is an avenue to encourage people to take appropriate actions towards their hearts in order to live longer and healthier.
Speaking at the Bazaar, the Vice Chairman, Nigerian Heart Foundation (NHF), Dr. Femi Mobolaji-Lawal, stated that the healthy heart bazaar is part of the sensitization programme to celebrate World Heart Day and to promote and showcase heart friendly products certified by the organisation.
“With cardiovascular disease accounting for nearly one in three deaths across the globe and with 80% of the disease burden in how and middle income countries like Nigeria, the healthy heart bazaar will aim to educate participants on how making healthy food choices and living healthy lifestyles play key roles in maintaining good cardiovascular health.”
Mobolaji-Lawal stated that research studies have shown that regular physical exercise lower the risk of heart attack or stroke and help to control blood pressure and cholesterol. He therefore encourages participants to get active and build physical activities into their daily life at home, at work and at play.
“Make simple changes like saying no to alcohol and tobacco and eat healthy foods rich in fruits, vegetables and high in fiber; avoid high intake of salt, drink plenty of water as getting the right balance of foods and regular exercises go hand in hand and help maintain a healthy heart”, he added.
He went on to appreciate all the companies who keyed into the organisation’s programme and contributed to the success of the event.
According to Ndidi Ezeudenyi-Okoye, Assistant Brand Manager, PZ Wilmar Ltd, the vegetable oil manufacturer decided to team up with NHF to celebrate the yearly world heart day because the company shares the aspirations, commitment, passion and resilience with NHF in ensuring healthy living amongst Nigerians.
