Man jailed for stealing at his brother’s house

A Maiduguri High Court on Monday sentenced a man to 10 years imprisonment for conspiracy and robbery.

The accused, Kyari Bukar of Ngomari ward of Maiduguri, was sentenced under sections 97 and 298 of the penal code law of Borno State.

The court also sentenced the accomplice of the accused, Hamisu Haruna, to six months imprisonment.

The court was told that the accused persons, who were armed with dangerous weapons, including knives, cutlasses and sticks, broke into the house of one Hauwa Ngomari and carted away her property.

According to court papers, the accused carted away necklaces, four handsets, gold earring and DVD machine, all valued at N173,000.

The first accused, who was said to be a brother to the complainant’s husband was also accused of attempting to rape one of the victims during the robbery incident.

Presiding judge of the High Court 11, where the case was determined, Justice Alkali Wakil, said the action of Bukar was shameful and serious.

“It is the highest ingratitude of Kyari and his partners in crime,”said Wakkil.
