Oak, a leading marketer of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages treated
students of the University of Lagos to some Calypso delight during the annual Biobaku
Hall Week, an event which brings together, students of the
institution just as the school rounds up recent academic session.
The
one week fun-filled event gave the student an opportunity to showcase their
talents in music competitions tagged Rap Contest, Cooking Competition, Mr.
Macho and Mr. Biobaku among others.
While
speaking to newsmen at the event, Calypso Brand Manager, Joy Alabata said that
the purpose of sponsoring the one week event is to create fun for their target
consumers, noting that as undergraduates, these students fall into that group
adding that Calypso is the spirit of fun and events like this serves as medium
to deliver that promise to their consumers.
“We
will not limit the event to one hall or one campus. Next year, we plan to go on
campus storming, touring several higher institutions across the country and it
promises to be fun filled. This kind of events has brand equity and loyalty for
Calypso. It is a means of meeting our target consumers at their passion point
and it has created an avenue for them to get familiar with the product,”
Alabata said.
While
speaking about this year’s edition of the Calypso sponsored annual Biobaku
Hall Week, the chairman of the hall, Moyosore Adebanjo, a 300 level student
said that Calypso has been supporting the event for the past three years.
“It
has gotten to the stage that students are now clamouring for Calypso every
year. Besides, Calypso is not about drink and get drunk, it is all about
raising the standard of life,” Adebanjo said.
At
the end of the event, Abidemi Arawole, a 100 level student of the hall emerged
the winner of Mr. Biobaku Hall for the year 2014, while Anthony Ajayi-Igunbor
turned out to be the 2014 Mr. Macho.
In
the same vein, Keshinro Damilola, a 400 level student of Urban and Regional
Planning emerged the hero of the cooking competition when he beats three other
contestants to a pot of sizzling fried rice, egusi soup and semo vita. He went home
with a pack of Calypso and some other goodies.
Meanwhile,
the panel of judges could not but pronounce Olatunji Oladotun, a 200 level
student of Physics department, the winner of the Rap Contest with his
second to none stage performance.
