The Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON) on Monday
said that it would host the third edition of Alcohol Beverage Marketing
Summit in Lagos on Oct. 23.
Mr Garba Kankarofi, the Registrar of APCON, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.
He said that APCON would collaborate with the International Centre
for Alcohol Policies (ICAP) and the Beer Sectoral Group (BSG) to host
the summit.
The event will hold on Oct. 23 in Lagos with the theme “Responsible Alcohol Marketing”.
It will also involve local and international participants to brainstorm on responsible consumption of alcohol,” Kankarofi said.
He said that local participants and international resource persons
would dialogue on the strategic marketing skills of alcohol and
responsible alcohol consumption.
Kankarofi told NAN that Mr Brett Bivans, the Senior Vice-President of ICAP would attend the summit.
He also listed others as Mr Arthur Pober, Senior Fellow, Centre for
Digital Future in the U.S. and Mr Tolu Ogunkoya and Mr Ade Akinde, an
official and the Managing Director, Campaign Palace in Lagos,
respectively.
The forum will draw top government functionaries and dignitaries from
across the alcohol beverage industry, advertising practitioners and
general stakeholders.
It will also serve as a veritable platform for discussions and
deliberations on key issues around responsible alcohol marketing,
consumption and promotion, “ he said.
Kankarofi said that APCON had strived to maintain a strong focus on
its vision of promoting responsible and ethical advertising practice.
It serves as conscience of the society on matters of commercial communications and a watch-dog for consumers.
It also manages the need and interest of stakeholders in Nigeria in all aspects and ramifications,“ he said.
Kankarofi described ICAP as a non-profit organisation with a mission
to promote understanding of the role of alcohol in the society.
The organisation helps to reduce harmful drinking worldwide,
encourages dialogue and pursue partnership involving the alcohol
industry, government, the public and health community,” Kankarofi said.
