Loic Remy hopes he will recover from injury in time for Chelsea's "huge" Premier League clash at Manchester United on Sunday.
Remy, 27, started in Tuesday's 6-0 Champions League victory over Maribor, but appeared to injure his groin while scoring the first goal 13 minutes in and was withdrawn soon after.
The France international was starting due to Diego Costa missing out
with a hamstring injury, and Remy is desperate to prove his fitness to
Jose Mourinho with Didier Drogba currently the only fit senior forward
for the trip to Old Trafford.
"We will see with the scan," Remy told reporters after the match.
"I really hope it is not too bad. Fortunately I stopped playing because
I felt something. I don't think it is too bad but I felt something. My
groin.
"Yes, it's frustrating of course because I had a chance to play
because Costa is injured but I am not afraid. I don't think it is really
bad. We will check and I really hope to play again this weekend.
"It is a huge game but every game is tough. Especially this one
because it is a big game against a good opponent, but I will try to
recover as quickly as possible."
Mourinho says Remy could be out for up to two weeks if scans showed a muscle injury, and Remy revealed he felt the problem before his goal.
"No, before that, it was a bit stiff, even my run and I didn't feel
very comfortable," he said. "That's why I prefer to come off but for me I
have to care about myself, and if I'm not feeling very good it's better
to leave for another player who is 100 percent."
Should Remy be ruled out of the match against United, Drogba is
likely to lead the line with 17-year-old forward Dominic Solanke
potentially on the bench after making his debut off the bench against
Maribor.
