In its bid to promote excellence and professionalism in the practice of marketing in Nigeria, the Advertisers’ Association of Nigeria (ADVAN) has awarded Nestle Milo, Nigerian Breweries and other brands in twelve categories at the fourth edition of its annual award night. The awards which is for marketing excellence and in line with the vision of the professional body to acknowledge and reward marketing professionals that have made outstanding contributions to the profession was recently held at the Shell Hall, Muson Center, Lagos Nigeria.
Nestle Milo won the biggest award of the night which is ‘brand of the year’. Apart from the brand of the year award, the foods and beverages company also grabbed the ‘campaign of the year and consumer promotion category.’
In the ‘experiential marketing’ category, Nigerian Breweries ‘Star’ emerged the winner, with one of its other product, Fayrous, emerging the first runner up and Nestle Milo the second runner up.
In addition to the ‘Experiential Marketing’ category, another product of Nigerian Breweries, Star Lite also won the ‘New Brand or Service Launch’ category. Eco Bank Nigeria Plc and Onga were the second and third runner up.
Guinness Nigeria Plc ‘Origin’ won the ‘Innovation’ category with Star Lite and Lord’s Dry Gin coming second and third respectively.
Corporate Social Responsibility (CRS) category was won by one of the leading manufacturer and distributor of the most familiar household brands, PZ Cussons. Following closely behind PZ cusson is telecommunication giant MTN and Aquafina.
Apart from been emerging the second runners up in the ‘Corporate Social Responsibility’ category, MTN also won the ‘Digital Marketing Category’ with Snapp and Amstel becoming the first and second runners up correspondingly.
Oral-B, an Oral Hygiene product, with variant products like toothbrushes, toothpastes, mouthwashes and dental floss won the ‘Consumer Insight’ category.
In the same vein, ADVAN added two new categories to this year’s edition. They are ‘Brand Journalist of the year’ and ‘Future Leader in Marketing’ Category.
In the ‘Brand Journalist of the year’ category, the incumbent Brand Journalist Association of Nigeria (BJAN) president who also writes for The Niche newspaper won the category. Adedeji Ademigbuyi of the Nation Newspaper and Abiodun Obisesan of Saturday Guardian Newspaper and BrandiQ Magazine went home with the second and third position respectively.
In the ‘Future Leader in Marketing’ category, Emmanuel Olatokun a 400 level student of University of Lagos (UNILAG), Mass Communication department was the winner. He was followed closely by Hinmikaiye David and Alabi Tolulope. According to ADVAN, the winner of the category which is Emmanuel Olatokun will be their Ambassador for the next one year.
In an exclusive interview with TOTALNEW247, Emmanuel Olatokun said that he feel very happy winning the award, adding that he never expected it. When asked if the award will change his profession from a Communicator to marketer, Olatokun said this: “I have a flair for marketing and advertising; this award will definitely increase my passion for the professions.”
The Award ceremony was indeed a night
of glamour and excitement in the nation’s marketing scene. The Awards is a
celebration of hard work and ingenuity in the marketing profession. As the
umbrella body for marketing professionals ADVAN maintain, develop and set the
marketing industry standards.
